Rumeli Feneri Castle

Rumeli Feneri, also known as the Rumeli Lighthouse, is a historic lighthouse located in the village of Rumelifeneri in Istanbul, Turkey. It stands on a hilltop overlooking the Black Sea at the northern entrance of the Bosphorus Strait. The lighthouse was built in 1856 during the Ottoman era to aid navigation for ships passing through this critical maritime route.

The lighthouse is strategically located to help ensure safe passage for vessels entering and leaving the Bosphorus. While there is no castle structure at this site, the lighthouse itself is an important historical maritime landmark.

Rumeli Feneri features a tall tower with a lantern room and stone construction typical of 19th-century Ottoman maritime architecture. Visitors to the lighthouse can enjoy panoramic views of the Black Sea and Bosphorus coastline.

The nearby village of Rumelifeneri is a quaint fishing community offering a look into local life, fresh seafood dining, and peaceful coastal walks.

Rumeli Feneri remains a significant symbol of Istanbul’s maritime heritage and the natural beauty of the Black Sea coast.
